A cortege of personal and emergency services vehicles heading from Volk Leber Funeral Home in Teaneck to George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus could stretch nearly a half-mile based on the response so far, Shaffer's friend Chris "Doc" Denton told Daily Voice on Monday.

Shaffer's casket will be draped in the American flag, Denton said.

The Bergen County Bureau of Police Services will provide the escort and keep the path clear, with the help of Shaffer's security officer colleagues.

Loved ones have established a GoFundMe account to help pay the funeral expenses.

Visiting hours were scheduled from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Volk Leber, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck. Wednesday's service is at 10 a.m.

Shaffer, a 38-year-old Bergenfield native who lived in Ridgefield, worked for 15 years in the Security Department of the Bergen County Department of Public Safety. He was also avid photographer who worked with local fire departments shooting scenes.

Shaffer leaves a wife, Dorothy (Romano) and two children, Michael Jr. and Sarah; his parents, Kathy and Thomas; and a sister, Marcella.
