“It’s important for the public to be aware that there are yahoos who do this on their own, and my officers risk themselves catching them,” Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Ptl. Kevin Pinches was running radar on Route 208 when he clocked a vehicle traveling at 103, straddling the shoulder and the right lane, Fox said.
Pinches followed the car off the highway and stopped it on Russell Avenue, he said.
The officer took 25-year-old Steven M. Kampschmidt of Hidden Pond Path to headquarters, where he was charged with DWI, speeding, reckless driving, failing to maintain his lane of travel and failing to notify state motor vehicle officials of an address change.
Kampschmidt, an Indian Hills High School graduate who got his MBA from RIT, was released to his father. He is scheduled for a May 16 Municipal Court hearing in Wyckoff.
This comes nearly a month after Ptl. Kevin Kasak clocked a vehicle traveling on Route 208 south at 108 mph, then pulled it over on Ridgewood Avenue. Eric A. Deysher, a 23-year-old warehouse operator from Windsor Road, was charged with DWI, speeding reckless driving and making unsafe lane changes.
“That we do catch them is a signal to others not to try it here,” Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “If you try, you do so at your own peril — although unfortunately at the peril of others if, God forbid, you have a crash.”
