Wood-Ridge police, who already patrol the schools when youngsters are heading in and out, are keeping an extra eye out as a result of Monday’s incident, Police Chief Joseph Rutigliano said this afternoon.
They’ve also alerted surrounding towns in case they’ve had similar incidents, he said.
The boy told police the man approached him around 4 o’clock Monday afternoon near the Catherine E. Doyle School and asked whether he wanted a ride somewhere.
The boy said he ignored him and ran away, Rutigliano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
He described the man as Hispanic male, around 40 years old, 5’11” and 180 pounds, wearing all black — hoodie, jeans and sneakers.
This closely matches a description given two months ago by an 11-year-old boy who also attends the Doyle school, the chief said.
In that incident, the man may have possibly been driving a recent-model, 4-door, white Nissan SUV, he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
District officials have sent messages to parents about the incidents.
