Travis J. Codiroli, 28, apparently had tried getting into a Bailey Avenue home when Officers Michael Griffin and Thomas Pianettini responded to a resident’s call at 8:40 p.m., Lt. Douglas Eldridge said this afternoon.
They stopped Codiroli’s car a short distance away, spoke with him, then tried to take him into custody, Eldridge said.
The lieutenant said Codiroli responded by putting the vehicle in drive and hitting the gas — leaving his wallet with the officers, sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT last night.
After falling off the car, Griffin and Painettini got back into their cruisers and chased Codiroli onto southbound Route 202 through Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Wanaque and eventually back onto northbound Route 287, Eldridge said.
Concerned about others’ safety, the officers terminated the pursuit at Exit 59.
Following up, Detectives Mark Piercy and Edward McDermott arrested Codiroli in Philadelphia at 10:30 a.m. today.
The former Bergenfield resident was being held without bail pending extradition to New Jersey, where Eldridge said he’ll face two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting, eluding, attempted burglary and various motor vehicle violations.
Bail was set at $150,000.
