A three-alarm fire at the Sara Lee factory in Moonachie that ended up burning through the night left three firefighters with minor injuries. Nearly two dozen fire departments and emergency medical teams were at the scene, in response to the fourth — and worst — fire at the bakery plant in a year and the second in 2009.
Sources who first alerted CLIFFVIEWPILOT to the fire at the Sara Lee Coffee and Tea Co. on Empire Boulevard before it had been reported anywhere else said the cause has yet to be determined. Overheated coffee roasters were responsible in the previous incidents.
Because of the location of the blaze, it appears workers will be able to return and the business can continue to operate.
