Federal jurors in March convicted Kirkland in March for the burglary string, which occurred soon after he’d served five years in state prison for the original Bond burglaries.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Colone had more than a smoking gun. She had a wallet left at the scene of Hasbrouck Heights break-in on New Year’s Day 2004: Inside the wallet was Kirkland’s driver’s license.

Colone and fellow AUSA David E. Malagold also brought a string of former crew members to court — including Terence Lawton, who created the Bond gang with Kirkland.

Like the rest of their colleagues who took the stand in the trial, Lawton rolled over on Kirkland in exchange for promises from the government. In his case, it was that he wouldn’t be prosecuted for his admissions.

Kirkland, who recently turned 42, could have gotten 25 years behind bars under federal guidelines, but U.S. District Court Judge Katherine S. Hayden granted the former Englewood hood a smidge of leniency.

A stolen pistol that police found in a microwave was tied to Kirkland, who later met with another founding Bond member, Bruce “Cap” Anderson, to decide who among the crew would take the gun charge, prosecutors allege.

Kirkland has remained in federal custody since his arrest.
