Angelo Talignani “had a knife to his neck. He cut himself and was bleeding,” a law enforcement source said this morning.
Police officers who responded to the Jan. 14, 2012 call at the Burr Place home that Talignani shared with his wife, Antoinette, “got him to drop it,” the source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
He was then taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center, he said.
Given their respective ages, ambulance calls to the couple’s home were routine, one emergency responder said.
Antoinette Talignani, 82, recently fell and was being cared for by a live-in home health aide who called police after hearing shots around 7:30 yesterday morning, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.
Officers responding to the house told CLIFFVIEW PILOT a short time after arriving there that it appeared the 85-year-old Talignani shot and killed his wife.
Soon after, they said, they found 84-year-old Anthony Gentile — Angelo Talignani’s friend and his wife’s brother-in-law — shot dead at his home four doors down.
“We don’t know if there was any type of scuffle or argument,” Molinelli said at a news conference afterward, adding that he believed Talignani’s original intent was to kill himself.
Molinelli said the U.S. Army PFC known as “Chick” had shown signs of depression and “expressed regret that he was still alive” to police called to his home.
