Hasbrouck Heights Detective Captures NYC Fugitive On Route 17

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Tipped off by the NYPD, Hasbrouck Heights police captured a fugitive after he left a Route 17 gym, authorities told Daily Voice.

Alfred P. Laskas, 62, who was wanted on larceny charges, was a regular at the local 24-Hour Fitness, Detective Lt. Michael Colaneri Jr. said Thursday.

Just after 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Detective Joseph Armeli spotted a stolen vehicle that Laskas was known to have driven parked outside the gym, Colaneri said.

After spotting Laskas get into it, Armeli radioed to patrols for backup and stopped the car, the lieutenant said.

Laskas initially resisted arrest before finally being taken into custody, Colaneri said.

Laskas remained held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending extradition on an NYPD fugitive warrant. Borough police also charged him with possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
