Alfred P. Laskas, 62, who was wanted on larceny charges, was a regular at the local 24-Hour Fitness, Detective Lt. Michael Colaneri Jr. said Thursday.
Just after 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Detective Joseph Armeli spotted a stolen vehicle that Laskas was known to have driven parked outside the gym, Colaneri said.
After spotting Laskas get into it, Armeli radioed to patrols for backup and stopped the car, the lieutenant said.
Laskas initially resisted arrest before finally being taken into custody, Colaneri said.
Laskas remained held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending extradition on an NYPD fugitive warrant. Borough police also charged him with possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
