A published report about the incident made no mention of the shooting — nor did it say that the man had eluded police for nearly an hour before they found him hiding near Henry Street and Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights.
The officers were trying to pull over the stolen Durango following an armed robbery around 8 p.m. Saturday when he “shot out his window at the cops trying to stop him,” an officer involved in the pursuit told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
He then fled east on Route 80, with police on his tail, the officer said.
“The car got away from [police] for a brief moment and made it to Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights,” the officer said.
The suspect then stopped the vehicle, jumped out and took off, he said.
“Sheriff officers from Bergen and Passaic arrived with dogs and started to track the guy,” the officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “They finally got him an hour later in the area.”
According to a published report, Isiah Lawson, 33, of Newark, was charged with assault with a weapon, among other counts, according to Paterson Police Lt. Ron Humphrey.
Humphrey made no mention in the article that there’d been a shooting or how Lawson was caught.
