Mohamed Omar (above, left) and Mostafa Omar remained free pending grand jury action after posting $35,000 bail each, Fairview Police Sgt. Vincent Bellucci said today.

Sgt. Michael Martic had gone to their 5th Street apartment on a tip of a suspicious vehicle when he ran into two men in the hallway who “raised his suspicions about drug activity” there, Bellucci said.  A third confirmed his suspicions when he told Martic he’d come to buy drugs, the sergeant said.

Mohamed Omar, 25, was arrested after a search of the apartment turned up the marijuana and pot-packaging paraphernalia, he said. Omar’s brother, 23, turned himself in the next day, the sergeant said.

Bellucci also announced the arrest of a 28-year-old Sayreville man on charges of burglary and conspiracy.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area of Hamilton Avenue and Desoto Place after receiving a report Wednesday of two men trying to break into a house.

Another resident who’d just been burglarized met the officers, and the search was on.

Although one slipped away, police arrested another, identified as Michael Morales, Bellucci said.

He was being held on $35,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a Municipal Court appearance next Wednesday.

Detectives, meanwhile, were searching for his alleged accomplice.
