A Bogota police officer scooped up the brown Pomeranian mix and rushed him to Ridgefield Park Animal Hospital.
A veterinary technician there pronounced him dead, however, saying that he’d broken his back in the fall.
The anguished owner was grief-stricken after being contacted by a local animal control officer.
The dog apparently got loose in a hallway of the Palisade Avenue building overlooking Route 80 (above) and scampered to an open door on the roof.
Witnesses said neighbors and emergency workers were rushing to the building when he jumped just after 1:15 p.m.
