Crack, Shoplifting: Moonachie Police Respond To Frequent Walmart Calls

MOONACHIE, N.J. -- Moonachie police continued their frequent responses to the Walmart in Teteroro -- making their 38th arrest of the year in the borough -- when they found a 57-year-old Little Ferry man who they said was smoking crack in the parking lot.

The report came in at 1:46 a.m. Sunday of a man laid out, possibly unconscious, Detective Sgt. Anthony Fugnitti said.

Officers found Anthony Luppino, who told them "he was laying in front of his car to check something and was not in need of any medical attention," Fugnitti said.

In plain view, the officers noticed a blowtorch, a copper mash screen, and a pipe -- "all commonly used in conjunction with drugs," the sergeant said.

They also found two vials of crack and marijuana, he said.

Luppino was released on bail, charged with drug- and motor vehicle-related offenses.

Officers made two other arrests at WalMart last week -- both of accused shoplifters.

Claude Moss, 43, of Elmwood Park, was charged with leaving the store without paying for six cases of Ensure worth $345. He was released on a summons.

Adam Abdelatif, 23, of Clifton was charged with taking more than $4,000 worth of equipment:

  • Two 40" and two 48" TVs (valued at $1552);
  • A 55" TV (valued at $998);
  • Two HP desktop computers ($968);
  • An HP desktop computer ($499).

He, too, was released.
