Cops corner drug store bandit, collect haul of over-the-counter meds

ONLY ON CVP: A Maryland “collector” swiped enough over-the-counter medications to fill two garbage bags and a suitcase before Ridgefield Park police and Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers chased down his rental car on Route 46 — and found him also carrying a “hit list” of pharmacies, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The thief tried to outrun the cops after swiping a batch of meds from the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street at the corner of Mount Vernon Street in Ridgefield Park, police said. But he didn’t get very far.

Hearing of the pursuit on his police radio, Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire dispatched officers to Route 46, anticipating the thief would be headed west.

He was right on the money.

Cruisers from Ridgefield Park and McGuire’s department coverged on the vehicle just west of the Little Ferry circle, across from the McDonald’s. When the driver refused to get out and reached across the seat, the officers drew their weapons and pulled him out of the car.

Inside, they said, they found the garbage bags, the suitcase and the list.

Ridgefield Park police were still taking inventory Sunday night. They said the accused thief also gave them bogus identification.
