Sheriff’s officers and Marshals were watching locations in Cliffside Park and Teaneck when Castelo, 53, showed himself just after 6 a.m. last Thursday, BCSO spokesman Anthony Cureton said this morning.
He was in custody moments later.
A Leonia officer working a radar detail clocked Castelo doing 50 miles an hour heading into town at 6:45 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2004, Police Chief Thomas Rowe told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
As the officer walked up to him, Castelo hit the gas and took off.
The officer called the vehicle’s owner, who said she loaned it to him, Rowe said.
Moonachie police arrested Castelo on Leonia’s warrant at a wireless business where he worked, the chief said.
He was charged with eluding.
A fugitive warrant was issued months later after Castelo failed to show for a pre-arraignment.
Castelo, who also had warrants out of Fairview and Moonachie, was free again after posting $11,750 bail this past weekend.
