Janice Carrero, 30, was engaged to be married next month in Garfield to 43-year-old Walter T. Mosley III, a New York State committeeman the past three years who has served as a consultant to two individual Assembly members from 2001-2006, according to New York State records.
However, a page they initially created on a wedding website after their engagement has remained completely blank, a month before what was to be the big event.
Carrero tried to pass the prescriptions for Percocet, as well as for Dilaudid (a drug roughly equivalent to morphine), but the pharmacist at Baron’s Drug Store on Moonachie Road summoned police, Moonachie Police Chief Michael J. Maguire told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Maguire said his detectives are working with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and security officers at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center to track down the thief.
Carrero, who only got her medical degree in May, remains free on bail pending a Municipal Court date on two counts of forgery.
Mosley, who is also the New York State Assembly speaker’s legal counsel, was a New York delegate at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Mosley has worked as a consultant to several local, county and New York City-wide campaigns, including Sen. John Kerry’s failed presidential bid, as well as former New York Gov. David A. Paterson’s campaign.
The government has given law enforcement limited funds to fight prescription fraud, which makes a case like this noteworthy. There’s no way of knowing yet how far the investigation will take them, but the potential is strong, given how widespread the problem of prescription fraud has become.
