Solutions Sought For Little Ferry, Moonachie Flood Protection

Organizers said the session will address the second phase of an application as part of a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) multi-phase competition for solutions to flooding in areas affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC) considers projects aimed at protecting the area from future flooding, enhance natural areas, provide recreational opportunities, enhance disaster resilience, revitalize the community and create economic development opportunities.

The application affects Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Hackensack, Hasbrouck Heights, Little Ferry, Moonachie, Rutherford, South Hackensack, Teterboro, and Wood-Ridge.The Sept. 29 public hearing will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Little Ferry Borough Hall, 215-217 Liberty St. in Little Ferry. Pre-registration is encouraged but not manditory.The public then will have until 5 p.m. Oct. 9 to submit formal comments on the proposal by email at ndrcpubliccomments@dep.nj.gov.
