Proposed Teterboro Jet Path Woud Impact Bergen Schools, Hospitals

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- A proposed shift of aircraft from Teterboro Airport to the west of their current route in an effort to minimize noise over Hackensack University Medical Center would instead, send jets and planes over more than half a dozen schools and The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, according to NorthJersey.com.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the new approach for Teterboro Airport shifts aircraft to fly over Route 17 south from Mahwah to Rochelle Park in an effort to minimize noise pollution, said NorthJersey.com.

The new flight path was published earlier this week ahead of a six-month trial run that begins Monday, April 4.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the new approach for Teterboro Airport shifts aircraft to fly over Route 17 south from Mahwah to Rochelle Park in an effort to minimize noise pollution, said NorthJersey.com.

The FAA told NorthJersey.com that they expect pilots to stay close to the highway and not make multiple turns along that part of Route 17. In addition, large sections of the upper portion of Route 17 is enclosed by noise barriers to protect nearby communities.

The noise issue dates back more than 10 years when a campaign began to alter the current path of planes which sends them over several apartment and office buildings in Hackensack, added NorthJersey.com.
