And residents seem to be okay with it. Toms River Mayor Maurice B. Hill announced the date change this week in a Facebook post. “This was a joint decision made by the Township, Toms River Fire Companies and the Toms River Police Department," Hill said. The collision occurred at 4:55 p.m. Saturday near Hooper Avenue and Washington Street, Toms River police said. Thomas P. Zimmerman, 19, of Brick told police he was driving south on Hooper when he crossed the double-yellow lines and crashed into an oncoming car, police said.
