Gotcha! NJ Duo Charged With Beating Gas Station Attendants In Armed Tri-County Robbery Spree
Two men wanted for beating attendants during a two-day spree of quick-stop armed gas station robberies in three New Jersey counties were captured by federal agents, authorities said.
Ex-con Ahmad Singletary, 24, and Joseph Young, 26, both of Newark, committed three of the robberies last Sept. 5, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.
Four more holdups -- also in a single day -- followed exactly a week later, the U.S. attorney said.
Singletary "threatened, assaulted, and struck victims in the head" with a Ruger 9 mm P95 handgun, injuring all of them, a complaint filed by the ATF says.

A 1.7 magnitude earthquake in Astoria, NY was felt all the way up in North Jersey on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 2, according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake was felt in Pompton Plains, Parsippany, West Orange, Union, Holmdel, Fort Lee, Ridgewood and Paterson, the USGS map shows.
According to NBC4, FDNY firefighters responded to reports of small booms called in by residents south of the Roosevelt Island Tramway sometime before 6 a.m.

Rain from a Sunday, Dec. 17 storm closed roads and delayed school openings across New Jersey on Monday, Dec. 18.
Thousands of residents were without power as of 9 a.m.
According to the PSE&G outage map, the following areas did not have power:
Bergen: 3,764 (Most in New Milford, Elmwood Park, Garfield)
Hudson: 4,095 (Most in Bayonne, North Bergen)
Passaic: 2,718 (Most in Clifton, Passaic)

Tornado Possible, Flood Watch Issued Across 18 NJ Counties As Thunderstorms Loom
A flood watch is in effect across 18 of New Jersey's counties as thunderstorms with the possibility of a tornado moves in, the National Weather Service said.
The flood watch is in effect until Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, in the following counties, according to the NWS:
Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.
The NWS said there is a "marginal risk" of an isolated tornado and damaging winds, however, no tornado watch or warning was issued.

Four burglary suspects were arrested after South Brunswick police responded to a break-in at a business, authorities said.
Police said the following men were charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, attempted theft and criminal mischief.:
Rolando Espinosa Cardenas, 50, of North Bergen;
Pedro Hernandez-Santana, 22, of Union;
Joshua Morales, 21, of Newark; and
Janier Poueriet, 22, of Newark.

Nearly 1,300 Bed Bath & Beyond workers are about to lose their jobs in New Jersey, according to a WARN notice filed by the company.
The WARN notice was filed with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, saying hundreds of jobs are going to be eliminated across the state.

Services Set For Woodbridge High School Teacher, Matawan Football Coach, 45, Who Died Suddenly
Visiting hours and a funeral service are set for Monday for a beloved teacher and assistant football coach who died suddenly Wednesday at Woodbridge High School.
Longtime business teacher Jeffrey Grimm, 45, was found by other staff who called 9-1-1 from the high school.
Grimm, of Union, also served as offensive line football coach for Matawan Regional High School.
A visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 6 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave in Union. A funeral service will follow from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
