Carlos Melendez, 64, of Irvington, was kayaking with a friend when police were called at about 1:35 p.m. Sunday, July 31, Keyport police said. Police found one kayaker on the shore. The crash occurred at about 8 a.m. on Route 36 at Union Avenue in Union Beach, initial reports said.  Crash victims were taken to Bayshore Medical Center and airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, according to an unconfirmed report. Multiple officers fired at the robber at the Keansburg Pharmacy in Keansburg Plaza on Main Street shortly before 3:30 p.m., Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J.
