The swimmers reportedly were all on a sandbar when it began to get rough. They were then caught in a rip current.

A rescue by lifeguards occurred at about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday June 9, according to a Facebook post by the Chadwick Beach and Yacht Club.

"Our guards responded extremely timely, efficiently, and effectively," the post said.

Twelve teenagers were pulled from the surf, all of which were brought back to safety.

Silver Beach assisted with stand coverage, as rescue lines, rescue boards, and several rescue torps were dispatched.

"Please, everyone join me in expressing our sincere gratitude to the Chadwick Beach Lifeguard Team," the post said.
