Driver Hospitalized After SUVs Collide In Westwood
Westwood firefighters freed a driver after his SUV got T-boned by another. The extricated driver walked to an ambulance under his own steam while bleeding from the head and was taken to a hospital following the crash at the corner of Kinderkamack Road and Westwood Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 7, responders said. : Merchant, 42, Commits Suicide In Downtown Westwood
UPDATE: It happened in an instant: As witnesses looked on in horror, authorities said, a merchant shot and killed himself Saturday afternoon in the busy downtown Westwood shopping district. The 42-year-old victim dashed into an alley behind LaViano's Jewelers on Westwood Avenue, next to Fairview Automotive on Fairview Avenue, and took his life in front of his horrified brother and a nearby restaurant owner around 1:45 p.m., authorities said. : 'Best Day Ever' For 6-Year-Old Emerson 'Chief For a Day'
A local youngster got the special honor of being Emerson’s “Chief for a Day” on Thursday. Joseph Cottone – the son of a Westwood police officer -- was selected during a borough PTA tricky tray event earlier this year. Joey, 6, got the full treatment, complete with a police escort from his home. Emerson Councilman Brian Downing swore in Joey, who did a uniform inspection of the officers and was given a tour of headquarters, vehicles and equipment – followed by a pizza lunch.
