Maskless patrons and employees scrambled to hide evidence when Paterson police raided an illegal after-hours club that had become a death trap, authorities said. Officials temporarily shut down the Washington Township Fire Department on Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution" following a COVID-19 exposure. Gas Instead Of Brake: Driver, 19, Plows Chevy Into Hackensack Gas Station Store
A 19-year-old driver from Clifton told police he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake when his car slammed into the front of a gas station convenience store Friday in Hackensack. Jhamir Harrison said he was pulling into a parking space at the South River Street BP station’s store when he “inadvertently depressed the gas instead of his brake” and the 200 Chevy plowed into the front doors, nearly hitting a bystander, around 10:30 a.m., Capt. NJ Education Department Releasing Guidelines For Summer School Programs
The New Jersey Department of Education is expected to release guidelines that will allow schools to conduct in-person summer education programs. These include extended school year and special education services, Gov. Phil Murphy said. Those can begin July 6. Nearly a dozen new coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania have been traced to the Jersey Shore, according to state health officials. Hackensack Meridian Health has created a test that health officials say could save patients days of waiting for test results and help control the spread of coronavirus. A fox that was euthanized after biting three people in Glen Ridge Friday has tested positive for rabies, borough officials said. The animal, which came into contact with at least four people, was caught on train tracks near Toney's Brook late Friday morning. A Hepatitis A scare in Sussex County comes on the heels of an outbreak that sickened nearly a dozen in Morris County. A worker at Camp Somers located at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope was diagnosed with the illness that may have exposed dozens of others -- including children, health officials said. Rabid Raccoon Found In Parsippany
A raccoon found in Parsippany tested positive for rabies. The animal was found on Minnehaha Boulevard in Lake Hiawatha, police said. An infected animal has the rabies virus in its saliva and infects other animals or people through bites and contact with saliva. Once infected animals become ill, they may bite or attack other animals or people. Authorities urged people to stay away and refrain from feeding wild animals. Sprinklers at a Waldwick pizzeria kept a blaze at bay until borough firefighters could douse it around midnight Monday, authorities said. Smoke poured through Waldwick Pizza, as well as the adjacent Waldwick Bar and Liquors, Waldwick Wash and Dry and Giant Farmers Market on Wyckoff Avenue. Bergen Has Most West Nile Positive Mosquitos In New Jersey, Passaic Has None
The first human case of West Nile virus in New Jersey was recently reported recently in Monmouth County and two other suspected cases are being investigated, according to the health department's most recent surveillance report. Of the 284 pools that tested positive for WNV in New Jersey, 57 came from Bergen County -- making it the area with the highest number of WNV-positive mosquitos. Jeep Crashes Into Ridgewood Service Station Convenience Store
No injuries were reported after a Jeep crashed into the front of service station convenience store on Goffle Road in Ridgewood early Thursday. Damage to the store was limited to broken glass, although firefighters requested the Health Department to determine any food was contaminated by the glass following the crash at Speedway Gas.
