UPDATE: Two civilian explosives technicians were taken to Morristown Medical Center — one by ground and the other via medevac — following a munitions blast at the Piccatinny Arsenal military base in Morris County this morning.
One was later released, Brigadier Gen. Patrick W. Burden, the base’s senior commander, said this afternoon.
The other remained hospitalized with injuries that he said weren’t life-threatening.
The general didn’t confirm the report of an amputation after the device detonated.
The techs were working with “an explosive submunition” — part of a larger projectile that separates before impact — when the blast occurred, authorities said.
