The victim was headed south on Palisade Avenue just past Commerce Street around 9:30 p.m. when he heard a bang, Detective Capt. Darren Sucorowski said this morning. So he stopped the car and asked four people nearby what happened.
A man later identified as 19-year-old Brandon Olivero put his bicycle in the path of the victim’s car and went up to the driver’s-side window, Sucorowski said.
“You hit a dog,” Olivero reportedly said before reaching in and punching the man in the head and eye, he said.
At that point, the driver told police, another youth leaned in the passenger window and said: “Give me everything you got.”
The victim then hit the gas, got away and called police.
Garfield officers arrested Olivero around 8:30 this morning after spotting him on Palisade Avenue and chasing him to his Bloomingdale Avenue home, Sucorowski said.
He was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery and obstruction.
