Volunteers start as probationary members and ride with two full members, who serve as mentors. The squad also provides continuing education on a monthly basis. A wide range of members are welcome, from teens to retirees.
The first-aid squad responds to about 1,500 emergency calls a year, and its members come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The squad also noted that many of its members have gone on to pursue a medical career, after volunteering with the squad.
