Windy and icy weather conditions created a challenge for firefighters who doused a Sussex County blaze late Sunday night into Monday morning. The fire broke out at a home near Maple Grange Park in Vernon, the McAfee Fire Department said. Also responding to the scene were the town’s three other fire departments — Vernon FD, Pochuck FD, and Highland Lakes FD. Stolen Car Driver Charged With Assault In Route 17 Crash That Injured Two
UPDATE: A driver was charged with two counts of assault by auto after she rear-ended a car on Route 17 in Ridgewood with a stolen sedan, authorities said. Mille Sauvan, 44, remained at Hackensack University Medical Center in police custody on Monday after responders said they found a crack pipe in the stolen Lexus following Saturday morning’s crash on the southbound highway. Authorities Charge Convicted Murderer, Other Inmates Who Set Fires In Passaic County Jail Riot
Authorities filed charges against a convicted murderer and five other inmates subdued by sheriff's officers after they set fires to bedsheets during a weekend riot at the Passaic County Jail. What became a six-hour ordeal began Saturday night when two inmates refused to lock into their cells, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said. Things escalated when others became non-complaint, as well, he said.
