Overnight Fire Severely Damages Norwood Home
Flames blew through the roof of a Norwood home near the Rockland County border. Firefighters battled extreme cold and slippery conditions to douse the upper-floor bedroom blaze, which broke out on Broadway just off Piermont Road around 2 a.m. Sunday. No serious injuries were immediately reported. Mutual aid responders either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Harrington Park, Closter, Demarest, Northvale and Old Tappan. Downed Utility Lines Spark Leaf Blaze, Cut Power To Norwood Businesses
Fallen utility lines knocked out power to several area businesses and sparked a leaf blaze in Norwood that was doused by firefighters on Monday. The lines fell in the area of Broadway and Livingston Street outside the Chase Bank shortly before noon. Norwood firefighters were joined by their colleagues from Closter, Demarest, Harrington Park, Haworth and Northvale, as well as borough police and EMS and the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps. Norwood PD: Rockland Trash Hauler Walks A Mile After Compactor Severs Part Of Finger
A Rockland trash hauler had part of his finger chopped off by a truck compactor on a Norwood street Wednesday afternoon -- then walked nearly a mile in the scorching heat before finding police who helped get him to the hospital. The 36-year-old Interstate Waste Services employee from Spring Valley was on Carter Street, near Old Tappan, when his left ring finger got caught between the trash and the dump box panel shortly after noon, Officer Nick Moltzen said.
