Twice Rescued Whale Turns Up Dead Near Island Beach State Park
A minke whale that was stranded twice in two days in Barnegat Bay has died, authorities said. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said in a Facebook post that the whale had died late Thursday, Oct. 5 and was towed to Island Beach State Park. On Friday morning, Oct. 6, the whale was transported from Island Beach State Park to a different location on the mainland so a necropsy could be conducted, the MMSC said. Morris County Man, 18, Charged In Deadly Toms River Boating Crash
A Morris County man has been charged in connection with the Barnegat Bay boat crash that killed a 19-year-old passenger and injured four others in June, state police said. Juan A. Fernandez II, 18, struck Intracoastal Waterway Marker #26 head-on while operating a 2014 Bennington Pontoon boat just before 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 13, state police said. Body Of Man Missing On Watercraft Recovered On Jersey Shore
The body of a 36-year-old man was recovered from Barnegat Bay earlier this week, a day after his unmanned watercraft was found, authorities said. Gregory Young's body was discovered around 7 a.m. in the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley, NJ.com said citing New Jersey State Police. His watercraft was found Sunday approximately 60 yards from Island Beach State Park Marina. A memorial service for Young, of Lanoka Harbor in Lacey, was planned for May 26.

Woman's Body Pulled From Water Off Jersey Shore
A recovery team pulled a woman’s body from Barnegat Bay in Toms River on Tuesday. Authorities couldn’t immediately say how she ended up near the Route 37 Mathis Bridge. Toms River police and firefighters, the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company and a New Jersey State Police marine unit initially responded to the bridge’s south side shortly before 11:30 a.m., township police said in a statement. The body was brought to the Aqua Blue marina, where Ocean County Crime Scene Investigation officers and a member of the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office met them.

One Dead, One Missing In Rash Of Boating Accidents Up And Down Jersey Coast
A rash of water mishaps up and down the Jersey Coast continued Saturday with a search for a missing kayaker in the Raritan Bay, less than 24 hours after a Toms River boater drowned in Barnegat Bay -- and moments before two other people had to be rescued off Keansburg. : Tornado Touches Down In Toms River
A small tornado touched down along the shore of Ocean County, the National Weather Service announced Thursday. The tornado, with winds of 70 mph, began as a waterspout in Barnegat Bay near Normandy Beach, briefly touched inland, and then returned out to sea, meteorologists said. Normandy Beach is on the barrier island between Mantaloking and Lavallette. So the tiny twister moved from the bay over the narrow strip of land -- less than a half-mile -- then back over the ocean.
