The purpose of this meeting is to convene teacher education faculty, teacher candidates, public school teachers and administrators to consider the impact of the new teacher certification requirements, including the edTPA, ALST, EAS, and CSTs, on teacher preparation and the field as a whole. Experiences with the new teacher certification exams will inform discussion of the impact of the regulations on diversity in the teaching profession as well the effect of the tests on the quality and autonomy of teacher preparation.
Pace’s partner schools and neighboring colleges including Bank Street, Mercy College, and Manhattanville College will have representatives in attendance.
Educators will share experiences and concerns about teacher certification requirements. New York State Regent Kathleen Cashin, Regent Judith Johnson, and Regent Betty Rosa will provide multiple perspectives on this topic. Recommendations for moving forward will be identified through the panel discussion.
The discussion will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the Butcher Suite at the Kessel Student Center on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
