The mayor and council on Nov. 2 adopted an amended ordinance prohibiting bamboo from being placed within 10-feet of the edge of the pavement with the adjoining right-of-way, according to northjersey.com.

In addition, an owner is required to contain bamboo plantings on its property and shall prevent such plantings from intruding into adjoining properties, the article says.

Administrator Bill McGuire said that 10 of the approximately 80 homes in the borough have bamboo, with some using it as a kind of buffer, northjersey.com reports. He said the issue is that the roots of the bamboo, which come out of the concrete can grow into other people's property, the story says.
