The white driver was wearing a red-and-white shirt and driving a black, 4-door, mid-sized sedan with New Jersey license plates, police said.
He pulled up to them in the parking lot in front of the T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School around 4 o’clock this afternoon and began trying to talk to them.
But “they got skittish and ran, and he took off at a rate of speed,” Police Chief Thomas M. Shine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The car was last seen headed southbound from the K-4 school on Charles Place, he said.
Shine joined the search, driving to a nearby ballfield “to see whether he tried to blend in with the crowd.”
