The Norwood Fire Company has been serving the community for more than 105 years, relying upon the bravest of the borough to help keep the rest of the community safe.
The department, which responds to emergencies at all hours of the day and night, typically answers calls reporting structure fires, fire alarm activations, gas leaks, auto accidents, medical assistance response and weather-related emergencies, according to department's website.
The company also is active in community events, conducting classes and demonstrations to promote fire safety for children and adults and hosting holiday programs that have become borough traditions.
At the end of this month, the department will participate in Norwood's Halloween Parade, according to its website, which noted that the organization will also take part in the borough's tree lighting ceremony later this year.
"The significance of being a firefighter today is unparalleled," said a statement on the company's website.
Anyone interested in volunteering with the fire company is invited to the Norwood Firehouse, 602 Broadway at 8 p.m. on any Tuesday night. The department's non-emergency telephone number is 201-768-6023.
