The young Yankees fan’s first operation was when he was three; the second was last year.

Despite these, as well as “hospital stays, countless MRI’s, doctor visits, self-injected daily hormone shots and test after test, he is the most positive and carefree person I know,” Jeanine Doyle told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “When I need strength to face life’s challenges, I turn to my hero’s smiling face for inspiration.”

Doyle told the web site she wanted to do something in return “to make up for all he’s gone through.” When a friend sent her the contest link, she jumped at it.

Matt made it through the first round of “hero” voting and is now in the finals.
