The borough driver told police he was headed south on Briarwood Lane Saturday morning when he hit the gas instead of the brake approaching the stop sign for Clinton Avenue, Police Chief William Essmann said.
The vehicle blew through the intersection, over an embankment and onto the railroad tracks, where it got stuck, the chief said.
Closter EMS took him to the hospital as a precaution after the good Samaritan got him out, Essmann said.
Northvale firefighters assisted by their Tappan, NY colleagues helped a tow company remove the SUV from the tracks.
