The teen said she’d left Northern Valley Regional High School at 2:45 and was walking north on Knickerbocker Road, crossing High Street (above), when the man called to her from across the street, Closter Police Chief Dennis Kaine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

He apparently was stopped at the light heading south, the chief said.

The girl said she ignored him but he called out again, offering her a ride.

At that point, the chief said, “she looked in his direction” and kept walking.

He apparently continued south after the light changed.

The teen described him as white, 40-50 years old, with black hair flecked with gray and a light colored t-shirt.

She described the truck only as a large, silver pickup.

“Several vehicles matching the victim’s description were stopped in the surrounding area, with negative results,” Kaine said.

An investigation was continuing.
