William Perez, 24, showed up Saturday at the Schraalenburgh Road restaurant and was told he wasn’t needed that day, Closter Detective Sgt. John McTigue told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Several witnesses told police that Perez “got upset and began arguing with one of the head chefs,” McTigue said. “Then he grabbed a large kitchen knife and started swinging it around.”
He then “made a stabbing motion toward the chief while whacking at everything in his path, threatening to kill the guy,” the sergeant said.
Haworth, Northvale and Norwood police assisted their Closter colleagues, who found Perez still in the kitchen, having put the knife down after being calmed by other workers.
He was identified and taken into custody, McTigue said.
Perez is charged with aggravated assault, threatening to kill and weapons possession.
