The officer shot one of his assailants, who later crashed the getaway car and was captured. But his partner ran off.

“The shooting of any active or retired police officer in the line of duty will generate a response from all of us,” said New Jersey State PBA President Anthony Wieners. “We will not let those responsible for the gunning down an officer enjoy one moment of peace after they pull that trigger.

“This $10,000 assures he will get no comfort as his friends and family race to the phone to collect.”

The Morris County officer got into a shootout around 10:15 a.m. with two men who ambushed him as he made a cash delivery to an Elm Street bar, authorities said.

The former Florham Park cop, who was working as a security guard, was hit several times, city police said. He was taken to UMDNJ and is expected to make a full recovery, Wieners said.

One of the robbers got into a car that crashed a block away, at Congress and Lafayette streets. He was carrying the money, along with several weapons — and a bullet wound in his leg, police said. He was listed in stable condition at UMDNJ.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about this or any other crimes call Newark’s 24-hour “Crime Stoppers” anonymous tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867).
