Mae Maria-Domenica Hessler, 95, Norwood Resident

NORWOOD, N.J. — Mae Maria-Domenica Hessler (LaRucci), of Norwood, formerly of Northvale, Edgewater, Closter and Manchester, NJ, passed away on Jan. 17. She was 95.

She was a founding employee of Bloomingdales in Hackensack when the store opened in 1964, where she worked for 25 years. She enjoyed dancing, and was an active member of the Norwood and Northvale senior citizen centers. She played bingo and bridge and attended NV Old Tappan baseball and music performances, and was a die-hard fan of the Yankees.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Rothe of Wanaque, formerly of Montvale; and son Fredrick Hessler and his wife Karen of Montvale; grandchildren James Rothe; Jennifer Rothe Oldham and her husband Jimmy; Kristen Rothe O’Donnell and her husband Keith; Eric Hessler and his wife Meghan; and Dr. Lindsay Hessler; great grandchildren Tyler and Ryan Oldham; Jackson and Avery O’Donnell; and Gage and Giles Hessler. She also is survived by her sister Margaret Keely of Norwood.

She was predeceased by her husband Frederick and by her sisters Natalie Kilmurray and Constance Ford.

Visitation is Friday, Jan. 22 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday Jan. 23 at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale at 11 a.m. Burial will be private at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Norwood Ambulance Corps.
