Alfis, director of the James F. McGuire Senior Center for more than a decade, lost her husband David, a Northvale firefighter, earlier this year. Friends and relatives had started a GoFundMe page for her to help with her own medical expenses.

Alfis (nee DeRienzo) started working at the senior center in 1991 as an office worker and volunteer. She became director in 2002.

She was known as the organizer behind several community events, such as the holiday tree lighting and Easter egg hunts, among others.

Survivors are her son, David Jr., of New York City; and her daughter, Tracy Littlewood and husband, Thomas, of Arlington, Tenn. She's also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas, Tyler, Todd and Troy; her brother, Lenny DeRienzo; and many other relatives.

A visitation is planned for 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave., Northvale. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Northvale.
