Charles L. Albanese, 97, Of Northvale

NORTHVALE, N.J. -- Charles L. Albanese, a resident of Northvale, died Thursday, May 19. He was 97.

He was born and resided in Northvale his entire life. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II serving with the 318th Fighter Group on Saipan and was a proud member of the American Legion for 62 years. He, along with his brothers, owned Albanese Brothers Contracting, which they began in 1945 and operated for more than 50 years.

After retiring, he worked at the Rockleigh Golf Course for 22 years as ranger and starter. He served his community in many ways throughout the years — as a member of the Northvale Planning Board and serving for a time as its chairman, as Northvale's building inspector, as a dedicated parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church, as a member of the Lions Club International, founding member of the Northvale Rod and Gun Club and as life member of the Northvale Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his children, Diane Duncan and husband Mitchell of Rockwood, Maine, Michele Albanese of Northvale and Leonard Albanese and wife Grayce of Northvale; grandchildren Leo Albanese and wife Meaghan of Littleton, Colo. and Charles Albanese of Northvale; siblings Grace Tirelli of Closter, Joseph of Northvale, Leonard of Closter and the late Antoinette Hallahan and Anthony; and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Agnes.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony’s RC Church, Northvale with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, N.Y. Visiting hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave., Northvale.
