There are two sessions scheduled in the lead up to the proms, one at 7 p.m. on May 11 at the Demarest high school’s auditorium and another at 7 p.m. on May 25 at the Old Tappan high school’s auditorium.
Those parents who attended the informational sessions earlier this year for the schools’ pre-junior proms are not required to attend a new session for the dances this spring.
According to Demarest Principal James Santana and Old Tappan Principal Bruce Sabatini, the informational sessions are in line with the school district’s goal of providing effective substance awareness education to the parents of Old Tappan and Demarest.
Parents will be expected to participate in a panel discussion featuring speakers that include alumni in recovery, attorneys, law enforcement, student assistance coordinators and school administrators.
Topics of discussion will include awareness of liabilities regarding pre-prom parties, appropriate conduct before and during the prom and activities that frequently occur after the prom.
Northern Valley High School at Demarest’s prom is scheduled for June 3 and Old Tappan’s prom is scheduled for June 10. Students attending the events will be required to attend pre-prom programs on the day of their prom.
