Married with two children, and a soccer coach in his personal life, professionally, Galfund is someone who goes beyond the typical daily routine of a dental office.

He is known to start his workday at 5 a.m. to accommodate a patient's work schedule, and picks up elderly or sick patients for their appointments.

Additionally, Galfund handles dental emergencies at all hours, even if the person is not a regular patient.

When he is not working in the office on Broad Street, or coaching, he likes to take his dog on long walks in the area's parks and woods.

There are many rewards in his profession, said Galfund. Central among them is being able to help someone correct issues in their mouth. He also likes "giving (patients) ways to maintain a healthy mouth so that they won't run into larger problems in the future."

He enjoys visiting elementary and preschools, which he did during a recent "Dental Health Month," he said.

The kids are "so excited especially if they know me which does happen a fair amount of time. They want to learn everything they can about brushing their teeth properly and sometimes I hear from the parents they are excited to brush their teeth using their timers I hand out. Its important to teach them proper dental hygiene at a young age."

Giving rides to some patients started nine years ago, he related.

It started with a woman waiting in the dental office after a treatment.

The staff asked if she was okay after about 10 minutes. "She said, 'I'm just waiting for my daughter to come pick me up, but she had to wait for her to get out of work a few hours later,' so I offered to drive her home. We have found this to be helpful to more and more people and its not just rides for the elderly. It could be someone who is not well, someone who doesn't drive or just needs a ride," Galfund said.

Galfund's practice is at 11 Broad St, Norwood, N.J.
