"They can experience service in a different way and in a different atmosphere than they ever have before,” the Rev. Steve Sayer said.Sayer is seeking volunteers to join him in a mission trip next summer to the Dominican Republic, where they will help renovate buildings, among other work.

“We can take as many as 35 or 40. We had a full house during our first interest group meeting,” he said. “It’s going to be about establishing relationships in other parts of the world that we are made to serve.”

Sayer and his wife have a child and over several decades adopted six more from a number of countries. He hopes maybe one or two of them will join him on the trip.

The church will work in conjunction with Foundation for Peace, an organization that they chose for the way it organizes and care for volunteers while they work.A $1,100 fee to participate doesn't include airfare. It goes toward funding for construction and to hire medical workers who will participate in a clinic day. There will also be nurses who will conduct checkups, as well as physicians who will either travel with the group or meet it there.
