April, now 18, has begun a support group for teens between 13 and 19 who are dealing with trichotillomania -- a condition in which people feel an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, eyelashes or eyebrows.
If you're suffering, "why don't you join us?" April queries.
WebMD explains that, with this disorder, the hair-pulling is an attempt to self-soothe, and some people may also have anxiety or depression.
The free meetings generally take place 7-8 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month in the conference room of the Old Tappan Library, 56 Russell Ave.
The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 2. You can also check April's support website for meeting dates and tips on dealing with trichotillomania.
"This is a judgement-free zone where teens suffering with 'trich' can express their feelings, share stories and swap some tips on how to 'Fight the Urge,'" April added.
You can contact her with any questions or concerns at april98ch@yahoo.com.
