A young black bear first spotted atop the Palisades in Cliffside Park on Tuesday made his way to neighboring Ridgefield, where he took a dip in a resident's pool Wednesday morning. Officials from the state Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife said they won't come unless the baby bruin heads up a tree. Members of Ridgefield Fire Co. 2 froze in their tracks when a former Cliffside Park resident walked in carrying a badly charred bowling pin from an infamous arson fire that killed five of the borough's bravest more than 50 years ago. "It gave me chills," Fire Chief David Brierty said. Former Ridgefield Firefighter, Ambulance Captain Bryan Berta Dies, 41
Bryan B. Berta of Ridgefield died on April 3. He was 41 years old. Born in Englewood, Bryan graduated from Ridgefield Memorial High School where he was in the marching band playing the Tuba and performed in several school musicals. He was a firefighter with Ridgefield Fire Co. 2 and former captain for the Ridgefield Ambulance Corp., his obituary says. "Bryan was an avid toy collector of Voltron action figures, trains, eagles cars, and NASA," the obit says. "He was a San Jose Sharks fan and Jets fan.
