A trio of thieves who’d been burglarizing vehicles parked outside New Jersey gyms had paper and tape covering their license plate when they tried to cash a stolen check at a Carlstadt bank, authorities said. Were they ever in for a surprise. The trio was still at the drive-up window when the manager of Lakeland Bank called police, Acting Police Chief Thomas Cox said. Robber Blasts Motorcyclist, Rescuers With Bear Spray, Caught By Hasbrouck Heights Police
An ex-con was captured by Hasbrouck Heights police after he blasted a motorcyclist and two good Samaritans with bear spray in a violent robbery attempt, authorities said. The concerned citizens came running after seeing Jared Stun knock the motorcyclist to the ground in an attempt to steal his bike outside Cycle Gear on southbound Route 17 shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Police Sgt. Police: Driver Runs Stop Sign, Knocks Over SUV In Hasbrouck Heights
Two drivers were hospitalized following a crash that rolled an SUV in Hasbrouck Heights. A Ford Focus driven by a 37-year-old borough resident was heading east on Springfield Avenue when it was struck by a Subaru Forester going south on Summit Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Police Captain Joseph Rinke said. The driver of the Subaru "appeared to fail to stop for stop sign and the vehicles collided in the intersection," said Rinke, the officer in charge of the department.
