19: Hackensack Schools Extend Remote Learning With No Return Date In Sight
Yet another North Jersey school district that closed due to COVID-19 will not be reopening until January -- maybe longer. In a letter to the community dated Nov. 13, Hackensack Superintendent Robert Sanchez said due to the upward trend in new cases, in-person instruction will have to wait until the new year. Hackensack public schools will begin operating remotely on Friday "until further notice" amid what state officials say is a second coronavirus wave, officials announced Thursday. Longtime Hackensack Middle School teacher Raquel James-Goodman tendered her resignation Tuesday, following a Board of Education vote that she says was just another example of systemic racism in Hackensack. James-Goodman, who had been with the Hackensack School District for 13 years, was saddened and disappointed by the fact that BOE Trustee Frances Cogelja refused to vote on a resolution to promote diversity and abolish racism in the district.
