North Jersey Mom, Teacher's Marathon Training Sidelined By Aggressive Cancer Diagnosis
Frankie Reganato thought the New York City Marathon was going to be the greatest challenge she'd have to face this year. The Ramsey mom and school teacher's race training was sidelined, however, by a devastating diagnosis: Lymphoma. More than $61,000 had been raised for her as of Tuesday evening on a GoFundMe launched by a team of close friends. "Frankie has persevered through life’s challenges and always came out on top even through the most difficult of times," the page says. "Her energetic, upbeat spirit always allowed her to have a positive outlook. Anyone who knows Frankie know…

Bergenfield Firefighters Crushed NYC Marathon, Fundraiser
A pair of Bergenfield firefighters met fitness and fundraising goals at the New York City Marathon. Cresskill Detective Sergeant Jason Lanzilotti and Port Authority Police Officer Sam Sukool both finished the race strong -- despite intense aches and pains -- and raised more than $3,500 for Mayday Missions. The nonprofit organization aids first responders in need. This was Lanzilotti's third NYC Marathon. He began feeling the pains from plantar fasciitis and achilles bursitis around mile seven, but still managed to pull a personal best and finish in 3 hours and 42 minutes -- 11 minutes fast…

Mahwah Woman Running NYC Marathon Keeps Memory Of Late High School Friend Alive
Clear eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t lose. When Jessica Ohnikian of Mahwah feels like she can’t run anymore, that’s what she tells herself. And somehow, she keeps going. The saying reminds herself of her childhood and high school friend Dan Zolotorofe, who adopted the "Friday Night Lights" motto as his own, before he died suddenly in 2011 from complications of juvenile diabetes. Ohnikian, 27, on Sunday morning will be running the New York City Marathon in Dan's memory. With the motto on her jersey. “Anyone who hears that saying just associates it with Dan,” Ohnikian said. “I think about it, a…

North Jersey Police Officers Running In NYC Marathon Raise Money For Responders In Need
Cresskill Detective Sergeant Jason Lanzilotti and Port Authority Police Officer Sam Sukool are raising money for a nonprofit organization that aids first responders in need before they run in the New York City Marathon. Mayday Missions is dedicated to "helping those who help others" -- bringing financial assistance to members of the service, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and their families. Both Bergenfield firefighters, Lanzilotti and Sukool say the organization holds a special place in their hearts. "As police, fire and EMS, we don’t always suck up our pride to ask fo…

Fit Cops: Cresskill Detective Stayed Alive When Music Died At NYC Marathon
Jason Lanzilotti of the Cresskill Police Department was minutes into running the 2016 New York City Marathon when his headphones died. The plan was to let the music carry him through the 26.2-mile race. But he knows, things don't always go according to plan. "I had nothing to go on but myself," the detective sergeant and Bergenfield firefighter said. It was Lanzilotti's second marathon -- the first time he would be running alone. He remembered the advice his uncle gave him when he ran his first with his brother-in-law in 2011: Focus, focus, focus. With nothing but the voice in …
